After hiking for about 30-40 minutes up a hill you will find an entrance to Grotta del Garrone. I’d suggest bringing a hard hat, hiking boots, a flashlight, and water on your excursion.

The entrance to the cave has about three sections.

First, you will enter the cave and be stopped by a rope. There are boulders and a narrow but manageable path. Until this point anyone can go and see inside the cave. It is fairly easy to reach. You can look up and see the ivy hanging from the top.

The second section is beyond the rope going down, deeper into the cave. The rocks are slippery and one should stay low to the ground. It also gets colder here as the light does not reach this point. Flashlights should be turned on before because there is no clear path down the rocks.

The third section is actually inside the cave where you can walk around and explore. You will find stalagmites, stagtights, and a small pond. As you continue inside the cave you will find small passages to climb through and continue exploring. Inside the cave is not for those who are claustrophobic. There are some cliffs inside so be careful where you step. If you look closely, sometimes you will find bats hanging from the top.

After you are done exploring you can continue up the mountain for another 5-10 minutes and look out into the valley from an old World War II bunker. This view gives you a beautiful panorama.

This hike is fairly easy, but the cave exploring is for more experienced hikers. While it is hard to find more information online about this cave, it is definitely worth checking out in person!
