Toronto, the largest city in Canada, is a great destination for those searching for heaps of culture, lots of fun, and a touch of adventure. There is so much to see and do that it would be impossible to fit it all into one article. So for now, here are five things you absolutely must do when visiting Toronto:
1. View the city from the top of the CN Tower
At over 550 metres high, the CN Tower offers a great view of the entire city, as well as the waterfront and Toronto Island. For those not afraid of heights, it’s a great spot to get some holiday snaps and soak in the city from above.
2. Take a day trip to Niagara Falls
This might go without saying, but you simply MUST visit Niagara Falls when in Toronto. There are a couple of ways to get to the Falls from Toronto - either renting a car or travelling via bus or train - and it takes about 2 hours. However you get there, be sure to block out a whole day and take a boat trip, or tour the tunnels behind the Falls to get the best experience.
3. Have lunch at St. Lawrence Market
Over 200 years old, this market offers food of all kinds - from raw meat and vegetables to pastries and takeaway options. In a city as big as Toronto, St Lawrence Market delivers a welcoming atmosphere and tonnes of character. Grab yourself a coffee and spend a couple of hours wandering through the stalls before lunch.
4. Ride bikes in Toronto Island Park
Toronto Island Park is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. A 10-minute water taxi will take you to the island, and it’s easy to spend the entire day here, walking, cycling, or picnicking on the beach.
5. Tour Casa Loma
Known as the only castle in North America, Casa Loma is Gothic-Revival-style mansion built as a residential home in 1914. Taking a tour of the beautiful house and gardens is like stepping back in history, and this is such an important part of Toronto’s history that it really is a must-visit location.
